The Mediocre Players Guide to Thronebreaker EQ
November 2023
Old Sarge's Initial Thoughts: The Easy Paths weren't as easy as I would like them to be- there are some roadblocks for people with less developed rosters and/or skill. But the new Champs are not to bad and they, as always, look amazing!!!
Old Sarge's Final Thoughts: Solid month. Only a few pain in the arse fights. All the bosses are pretty tame. Kush and Chee are not bad once you learn the mechanics of each fight. Champ Design Team knocks it out of the park again with two BIG HOME RUNS!!
Paragon Gauntlet Guide: Coming Soon!!
Good luck to everyone running EQ this month, I hope this guide helps. As always- when someone posts a champ that kills a quest or a Boss, I'll update this spreadsheet!
Chapter 1.1: TECH
Main Nodes:
Engineered Fracture: Armor break and they are Heal Blocked.
Infectious Wrath: You get a fury when you block their healing
Nanite Healing: Every 15 seconds they regen/heal.
Indomitable: Defenders healing abilities cannot be reversed, only stopped.
Bring:
Nimrod, OG Ironman, Peni Parker, Lady Deathstryke, Warlock. Howard the Duck. HulkBuster (Sp1 spam), Ultron puts heal block (with HB/Vision synergy), Captain America (Sam Wilson) with War Machine Synergy gives heal block on his SP1 so he is extremely viable.
Any Tech champ that armor breaks easy or can Heal Block. Civil Warrior (heal block on Heavy) and Red Skull heal blocks when you heavy (why not have some fun and get some use out of him!) Doc Ok (Chemistry Breakthrough). IMIW has heal block on his heavy attacks. Omega Sentinel (prefight heal-block).
Mint'y Fresh:
Path counters provided by Mint: Lady Deathstrike, Peni Parker, Warlock, Sentinel (especially good with the Lady Deathstrike synergy)
Landmine Path Fights:
Easy Path: First fight is Sauron- I used Yondu to remove his Prowess. Next up is Abomination- bring a poison immune. Further down is Darkhawk- might want to bring Red Mags.
Quest Boss: Hulk (Science)
Main Nodes:
Heavy Bias: Will launch heavies 30% more often.
Genetic Overclock: Use Tech or Mutant attackers. All others have 50% reduced attack.
You Get the Horns: If you intercept him or interrupt his Heavy he gets a Fury. If he gets 5 Furies he gets a big passive Fury for 10 seconds.
Rushdown: You start with 3 Rushdown Charges. You lose a charge if Hulk lands a Dash Attack or if you Block him. Knocking him down restores a Rushdown Charge on you. If you lose all 3 Charges you are Stunned for 3 Seconds and then your Charges are restored and the process starts over.
Encroaching Stun: Every 20 Seconds you get Stunned for 3 seconds unless you are preforming a Special Attack 1 or 2 when the timer expires.
Old Sarge Says:
According to my Immunities database (https://www.theoldsarge.net/immunities): Emma (while in diamond form), Gladiator (With 24 or more Confidence Buffs), and Nick Fury (While in Real Nick Fury) has Stun Immunity. I do not recommend Nick or Gladiator because of Genetic Overclock node.
Also- Valkyrie can go Stun Immune and deal with Unstoppable.
Round 1: This is not a fun fight. I used Emma and she did ok- I mistimed some of her specials and got caught with the Encroaching Stun a couple times. She got him to 44% health She's a 6* R2. Finished him off pretty easy with Warlock- just did Parry/Heavy and timed the Encroaching Stun with Warlocks long specials. You want a champ that has long Special's so the Encroaching Stun is easier to manage.
Round 2: My friend Eduardo on Twitter said- Shuri is surprisingly good for this fight. Long Specials and good damage.
Final Round: Easy Solo with Warlock. Just played Parry/Heavy and timed the Specials- both are long so that makes timing easy.
Civilian Intel:
Shuri works well! | Ultron works | Valkyrie is a great option
Elsa works great!
Nick Fury
Dani: Slow on sp1.. Long special for node.

Chapter 1.2: MYSTIC
Main Nodes:
Mystic Consumption: Mystic attackers get a Fury each time they nullify a Buff. Max Stack: 10.
Personal Space - Fury: When you are close to the defender they gain a Fury Buff every 3 seconds. Staying far away causes them to fall off.
Bring:
Doom, BWCV, Dr. Voodoo, LongShot, Tigra etc.… Any Mystic that nullifies.
Mint'y Fresh:
Path counters provided by Mint: Tigra, Rintrah, Doctor Doom, Wiccan
Landmine Path Fights:
Easy Path: There is a Black Cat about half-way through that can be a pain- I used BWCV so I could heal up all the damage.
Quest Boss: Sasquatch (Mystic)
Main Nodes:
Aggression: Regen: Every 2 seconds he gains a Regen Passive. When you hit him the timer is paused and it removes one Regen.
Bane of Damballah: If you have a Buff he deals 50% extra damage and has 10% Life Steal.
Dazed and Confused: Well-Timed Blocks from you start a 9 Second Timer- if you Well-Time block again within the 9 seconds you get a 100% Falter Debuff for 5 seconds causing all your attacks to miss. (Oh- this sounds like fun, he typed sarcastically).
Crimson Rage: Every 8 seconds he gains an Unstoppable Buff for 4 seconds unless he is suffering from a Bleed Debuff or Passive when the timer expires.
High Energy Diet: He has 99% Energy Resistance and Energy Hits regen him for all the damage he would have taken. If you put an Incinerate, Shock, or Coldsnap Debuff on him he gains 100% of a bar of power every 10 Seconds.
Old Sarge Says:
Round 1: WOWZERS!! This is a tough fight. He ran through Nick, GwenPool, and Ronin. Restarted the path and swapped out GP and Ronin for Cap IW and Morbius.
Round 1.5: I ran it with Cap IW and he "can" do it, but it is a pain. I got him down to about 30% health and quit out to try Morbius. This fight was MADE FOR MORBIUS!! Super easy W.
Round 2: I got a solo with Immortal Abomination but it wasn't easy lol. iBom's Weaknesses he puts on them when they hit block really came in clutch.
Final Round: I soloed with Morbius. He's a super fun champ and will probably be my first 7* R2.
Civilian Intel:
Use ArchAngel. |Use Silk. | Use Valkyrie. | Scorpion | Spiderman 2099 | Black Cat
Titania demolishes him.
Torch (not best option). |Rocket| Sandman | Baron Zemo | Quicksilver (Easy Win) | Nick Fury | Hit-Monkey
Juggs: just be super aggressive and make use of the unblockable
Sasquatch for Sasquatch. | Abs Man works | Sandman works
OG Spiderman: Soon as I had the double debuffs up, fight went very easy - he wasn’t getting unstoppable, and taunts meant he kept throwing the specials for me.

Chapter 2.1: COSMIC
Main Nodes:
Crack in the Armor: When the defender has an armor break on them you have a 10% chance (per armor break) to get a passive fury when you land an attack.
Tough As Nails: Defender gets an armor up ever 3 secs.
Mystic Ward: Your nullify has a 95% chance to fail.
Bring:
Any Cosmic works. Those with easy access to Armor Breaks even better. Captain Marvel Movie, Knull (pop an Sp1 and all the armor breaks add up quick!), Angela (Odin Pre-fight is even better!), CGR, King Groot, Hyperion, Cull Obsidian, Corvus, Aarkus, Venom, Medusa, Terrax, Air-Walker (with Peni Parker synergy).
Civilian Intel:
Herc with CapIW and BP synergy absolutely wrecks!
Heim, CGR (Path MVP), Galan(duped only), Hulkling
Mint'y Fresh:
Path counters provided by Mint: King Groot, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Knull, Silver Surfer
Landmine Path Fights:
Quest Boss: Abomination (Immortal) (Science)
Main Nodes:
Bubble Shield: Each time you Block an Attack your Block Proficiency drops. After 10 Blocks his next attack is Unblockable.
Matador: You get a Bar of Power when he activates a Special. This is the only way you gain power.
Enhanced Special 2: His SP 2 does more damage and the first hit is Unblockable.
Cold Turkey III: If you purify a Debuff you get a Burst of Degen.
Window of Opportunity - Stun: He starts the fight Stun Immune. When he would be stunned, you are stunned instead (no Parry's). The immunity lasts for 12 seconds and then goes on a 12 Second cooldown before returning. When the immunity returns it purifies any stuns on him.
Old Sarge Says:
Round 1: Easy fight with Overseer. Bring a Poison Immune. Don't block to often. Easy to dex is SP1 but it does cover a lot of ground so make sure you push him back as much as you can.
Round 2: I found out Kingpin can do a lot of damage but when he Shrugs the poisons he takes a lot of damage as well- so use him if you just need to take a big chunk out. Finished up with Hyperion.
Final Round: No issue getting a solo with Angela. Mine is Sig 200.
Civilian Intel:
Herc with Galan and Odin buffs
Cassie Lang | Viv Vision | Medusa | Captain Marvel Movie | Ghost

Chapter 2.2: SKILL
Main Nodes:
Martial Discipline: Every 5 crits purify all Debuffs from you.
Fighting Pit: When you are immune to a Debuff you get a fury.
Accident Prone: Every 5 seconds you are inflicted with a Debuff in the following order: Weakness, Disorient, Armor Break, and then Special Lock. Each last 10 seconds.
Heal Block: Permanent heal block.
Bring:
Anyone that crits a lot. OMG- Misty is sooo good here! Stealthy is a beast. Nick F works but takes a long time to ramp up. Blade works well. Hit-Monkey. Aegon, Shang-Chi, MoleMan, Ronin is a lot of fun here. GwenPool is fun as well, KingPin, Falcon, XBones, DDHK - pretty much any skill champ can run these paths. Elsa, Black Panther OG, BWDO
Civilian Intel:
Heimdall, Moleman (Path MVP), Hood + Kingpin
Mint'y Fresh:
Path counters provided by Mint: Kate Bishop (good generally, you can use the dissolver arrow and/or the sp3 to crit more and play around the nodes) Valkyrie, Moondragon
Landmine Path Fights:
Easy Path: Welp- Silk wrecked my Hit-Monkey for sure. Gladiator was a pain as well. The Permanent Heal Block node hurts. lol.
Path C: This was a hard path for me. The Xtra node makes it so that you can't parry very often or you get a Falter. And then they put some of the harder defenders on it. First up is America Chavez- I struggle with her and her heavy, restarted the path 3 times because of her. Then comes OG Spidey and he is a pain- had to take some hits to Get Nick some charges to negate his evade. The path gets a little easier with Shuri and Karnak but then gets real with Annihilus. Thankfully I have a ranked up Elsa to give me openings. Final fight is Kraven.
Path D: This one has a couple annoying fights as well: Shocker (I'm getting a lot better at Dexing his SP1), Nova (I still hate this guy but Elsa was clutch). The rest are easy.
Quest Boss: Knull (Cosmic)
Main Nodes:
Power Focus 2: Gains +60% more Power while under 2 Bars but suffers -80% Power Gain while above 2 Bars.
Pretty Basic: Your Special Attacks and Damage Over Time effects deal 95% less damage, but Lights and Medium Attacks deal 200% more damage.
Combo Party: You gain a Cruelty Buff for every 10 hits on your Combo Meter- but if you lose your Combo (get hit) you lose your Cruelties and take a big burst of damage for each Cruelty removed.
Counterstrike: If you Dex it grants you a Passive Fury charge. At 5 Fury charges they are all lost and Knull goes Unblockable for 9 seconds.
Knockdown Crit: When you knock him down he gets increased Crit Resistance for 15 seconds.
Old Sarge Says:
Round 1: This is an easy Doom fight. Nothing special about it. Just Power Gain to his SP2- which is the one you want to get to anyway.
Round 2: No problem for Nick.
Round 3: Super easy Win for Kingpin.
Final Round: I tried with BWDO but got clipped by his SP2 and that was that. Went in with Torch and the same thing happened- though Torch with Pre-Fight put in some good work. Finished him off with Kingpin. Again- this is an easy fight as long as you can time the Dex for his SP2.
Civilian Intel:
Nick Fury | Hood works | Kingpin works | BWDO smashes this fight
Boss Fight:
Hammy Plays MCOC

Chapter 3.1: MUTANT
Main Nodes:
Seeing Red: You take 90% less bleed damage. Launching a Special removes the bleed and gives you a fury.
Biohazard: 20% chance to get a bleed when you strike them. 50% chance you get a poison if you hit their block.
Bloodletting: Increase duration of bleed effects by 100%
Bring:
Sauron, Omega Red! OML. Colossus. Apoc. Rogue, Cable. Any mutant champ works just don't hit into their block. Easy life!
NOTE: Domino and ArchAngel seem to be struggling to gain furies. Maybe something to do with how they reduce Ability Accuracy on the defender- I don't know.
Mint'y Fresh:
Path counters provided by Mint: Dani Moonstar, Apocalypse, Stryfe, Namor, Bishop
Landmine Path Fights:
Easy Path: That Dragon Man is tough with all his Power Gain.
Quest Boss: Kushala (Mystic)
Main Nodes:
Trial by Fire II: If you don't hit her within 4 Seconds you get an Incinerate Debuff on you for 8 seconds.
Resistance is Futile: If you are Immune to something she gains a Power Gain Buff granting 15% of her Max Power over 3 seconds.
Written in Flame: For every 10 hits on your Combo Meter you gain an indefinite 350 potency Energy Resistance Buff. If you lose your combo you lose the Energy Resist and take a big burst of Direct Damage for each Energy Resist Buff removed. If these Buffs fail due to Immunity or Ability Accuracy reduction you take twice as much Direct Damage.
Ticking Soul Bomb: When you perform a Well-Timed Block you get a Fuse Charge. For every 10 hits on your Combo Meter, remove a Fuse Charge. When you get 3 Fuse Charges they are removed and you get a Soul Barb Passive, dealing 8% of her attack as Energy Damage per second for each Buff on the Opponent (not sure if this is you or her) for 20 seconds.
Explosive Personality: If you hit her block she gets an Armor Up Buff. When she gets 5 Armor Ups they explode and you lose 25% of your max health.
Old Sarge Says:
Round 1: She is Bleed and Incinerate Immune- I put ArchAngel in just to get a feel for the fight. He did ok. Then I ran Red Hulk and he did pretty good. He isn't Incinerate Immune but he removes them fast so you don't have to deal with Resistance is Futile or worry about Trial by Fire nodes. I forgot about Explosive Personality though so I took some damage. But I got her down.
Notes: Her SP1 is kind of like a cross between Doc Strange SP1 and SP2. The timing is weird. I just Blocked it. Her SP2 is harsh- bait the SP1.
Round 2: Easy win for Kingpin. I also got a lot better and Dexing her SP1. Same strategy as above- block until she Heavies, Dex and hit her while she is recovering.
Round 3: I tried Sauron but he only got her to about 60% health. Finished up with Red Hulk. Dexing gives you an Incinerate as well- so be careful.
Round 4: I ran Apoc against her and that didn't go very well. Took her down with Kingpin.
Final Round: I tried with Bishop but it was ugly- don't use him. Took her down with Kingpin.
Sarge Says: She looks AMAZING!! The champ designers really knocked it out of the park! Her SP3 is beautiful!!!
Civilian Intel:
Kitty and Havok did some damage | Titania destroyed her | OG Hulk
Void
Got a one shot with Silk (7R1) against Kushala

Chapter 3.2: SCIENCE
Main Nodes:
Just bring Science champs that are immune to Poison. If you don't have that then dex and parry to remove the poisons they are going to put on you.
Also: bring a science attacker that puts non-damaging Debuffs on the defender.
Bring:
Ibomb, CapIW, Abomination, SheHulk, RedHulk, Overseer, Anti-Venom, Scorpion (use either of his prefights), Immortal HULK, Antman, GHulk
Mr. Fantastic (his ‘Debuff Syphon’ pre-fight turns the poison into a healing node for any champion- and it is a non-damaging debuff)
Mint'y Fresh:
Path counters provided by Mint: Scorpion, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Joe Fixit (as a do not bring, don't bring quicksilver as you'll gain a ton of poisons due to his 13-14 hit combos and you can die to them pretty quickly)
Landmine Path Fights:
Easy Path: It isn't "easy". First fight is Ebony Maw. Next is MODOK. Next up is Sentinel and he sucks to fight with a Science Champ- I should have brought Overseer but Cap IW did it. There is also an Emma on this path.
Quest Boss: Chee'ilth (Skill)
Main Nodes:
Enhanced Parry - Power Gain: Each time you Parry you get a Power Gain Buff granting 1 Bar of Power to you over 5 seconds.
Physical Burst Reflect: 80% of ALL Physical Damage effects she takes is also dealt to you as Direct Damage (Examples- Bleed, Poison, Shock etc.).
Bear Necessity: She has a 90% chance to Auto-Block basic attacks. It counts as a Well-Timed Block (you will get Parried). It goes on cooldown for 8 seconds when she is knocked down. Striking her refreshes the cooldown.
No Hit-M...ercy (Buff): Each time you knock her down she gets a Cruelty Buff increasing her Crit Damage Rating for 7 seconds. While she has a Cruelty she can Crit through Block.
Parry: Well-timed Blocks are more effective, and Stun attackers making contact.
Old Sarge Says:
Round 1: She's a massive pain. You can't intercept her cause she auto-blocks which is a Parry. You can't Parry her cause she just shrugs it. I actually did ok with Scorpion but didn't get the W. Then I used BWCV cause she only does Energy Damage and I did ok- but no W. Finished up with Doom.
NOTES: Start the fight with holding block and bait her Heavy- its two hits and it's really slow so shallow evade and after the first part launch your Heavy to knock her down and put Bear Necessity on cooldown for 8 seconds- you should be able to intercept and hit without getting Auto-Blocked for a little while- the cool down timer is refreshed each time you are hit her. . Rinse and Repeat until you have a Special and launch it- this will knock her down again and give you that 8 second window. Her SP1 is easy to dex- after the 3rd bear swipe you can go in- as long as that 8 second timer didn't expire. Her SP2 has a blast at the end I just blocked.
NOTES2: Just make sure you aren't using a champ that does Damage Over Time like Bleeds, Poisons, etc...!!
Round 2: Katy Candy was right- Bishop is excellent for this fight. Got an easy One-shot!
Round 3: Well- I tried a couple of my Science champs and they did very poorly. So I went in with Bishop and ended up using 2 revives on him- I couldn't do anything right.
Round 4: Damn- I had to use a 20% Revive on Bishop again. This time it was definitely the lag in the game's fault. I took an SP2 to the face when I tried to Dex and Bish just stood there.
Final Round: Got the solo with Bishop again this time. You just gotta stay vigilant of that timer for the Bear Necessity node. Start the fight with a Parry/Heavy and then keep aggressive in attack. As long as she doesn't get stingy with throwing her SP1 you should be able to keep the timer reset for the whole fight.
Sarge Says: Chee is a badass! Amazing champ design. She looks awesome! I LOVE the Specials. A+ for the Champ Design Team that made her!!
Civilian Intel:
Bishop worked great against Chee’ilth boss. Just parry, and watch your power gain go. You can convert your prowess into regen to deal with the bleed/block damage. My r3 6* KO’ed her on average in 23 hits.
Sunspot! He gains power when a defender shrugs his Incinerate- easy W.
Angela (Hig Sig): Her Sig lets her bypass the auto-block.
White Mags Pre-Fight if you can fit him on your team- throw it on ArchAngel and she melts.
Shuri did ok against Chee’ilth. All attacks are energy and non-contact so the parries don’t stun you. Probably one of the most annoying fights Kabam has created in months though. Still auto-blocks everything so the play style of baiting heavies doesn’t change much. (Additional Info: add Wags Pre-fight for easier time.)
I Scorp'd Chee'ilth. bait heavy stack on shocks (energy) extra fury with venom. easy game easy life.
Nick Fury solo
Vox works great- didn't even have any idea how she worked.
OG Storm - just parry and use specials. when she purifies the stun she gets a passive stun + you get prowess
Kingpin: unlockable heavy to turn off auto block and he purifies the bleeds
Bishop: works good since she purifies the stun and takes energy damage because of that
