The Mediocre Players Guide to Thronebreaker EQ
September 2023
Old Sarge's Initial Thoughts: Easy Path is pretty easy. New Bosses don't seem too bad. I had fun in the upgraded Iron Man fight. Gladiator might be a bit of a pain. Love the new Iron Man!!! Looks awesome. Gladiator is kind of meh looking to me- but I have shit taste so what do I know.
Old Sarge's Final Thoughts: I thought the whole month was easy except for 3.2. I hate that particular Node Setup and some of the defenders were really hard and stressful with the additional node on each path that isn't the Easy Path. I'm STOKED for the OG Ironman rework! It's kick-ass! I'm meh on Gladiator. I thought the nodes on that fight were rubbish- thankfully I had Doom which made it cheesy easy!
Paragon Gauntlet Guide: Coming Soon!!
Good luck to everyone running EQ this month, I hope this guide helps. As always- when someone posts a champ that kills a quest or a Boss, I'll update this spreadsheet!
Chapter 1.1: #Dimensional Being, #Illuminati and #Thanos’s Army | MYSTIC
Main Nodes:
Short Temper: Each Cross Charge gives you a +30% Attack Rating. After winning a fight. you convert that Cross Charge with you (up to 5 Cross Charges) into Fury Passives and those last the next 2 fights.
Dodge, Duck, Dip, and Dive: #Dimensional Being, #Illuminati or #Thanos’s Army Attackers Nullify one Armor Up Buff on the Defender whenever any hit from the Defender's Special Attacks does not make contact with the Attacker.
Armor Erasure: #Dimensional Being, #Illuminati or #Thanos’s Army Attackers gain a Cross Charge each time they Nullify an Armor Up Buff or prevent an Armor Up Buff from triggering. Max stacks 10.
Defensive Transference: The Defender gains a permanent Armor Up Buff increasing Armor Rating by 10% per stack whenever the Attacker blocks one of their attacks. Max stacks 10.
Stalwart Shield: Each Armor Up Buff on the Defender reduces the Duration of Debuffs on them by 20%.
Explanation: Nullify an armor buff whenever you dex defender's specials. Nullify armor or armor breaks give a cross charge. Defenders gains an indefinite armor buff whenever you block. Each armor buff reduces duration of Debuffs by 20%. So, 5 armor buffs would mean stun immune.
Bring:
Mystics: Bring Nullifiers: Diablo, Doom, BWCV, Dr. Voodoo, LongShot etc.…
#Dimensional Being: CGR, GR, Mephisto, Morningstar, Hood, Magik
#Illuminati: OG BP, Red Mags, Namor, Mr F
#Thanos Army: Corvus, Proxima, Maw and Cull
Crowd Sourced Intel: Synergy: Purgatory + Hood works great. | Galan makes this Quest easy: Enemy gains armor ups. Galan gains charges. Single SP1 ends fight.
Heim, Purgatory, Moleman, Hood (Path MVP) + KP (Boss Counter)
Landmine Path Fights:
Quest Boss: VenomPool (Cosmic)
Main Nodes:
Occult Immunity - Heavy: VP is immune to Nullify, Stagger, and Fateseal. Knocking him down disables the immunity for 15 seconds.
Enhanced Parry - Armor Up: Each time you Parry him, he gets an Armor Up Buff for 15 seconds. Does not stack.
Scared Stiff: Ever 8 seconds you are Rooted for 4 Seconds. The timer is paused while you are doing a Special Attack and it is reset when you land a hit: so be aggressive.
Arrogance: Every 10 hits on your combo meter gives you a Falter Passive for 3 seconds. When you are struck it is removed.
Contagion: Whenever VP is struck or when he blocks an attack there is a 30% chance you will get a Poison for 10 seconds dealing 100% of his attack to you.
Old Sarge Says:
Round 1: I used Hyperion and it wasn't too bad. Just watch the falter and throw Specials and be aggressive. Hyperion's SP2 Stun came in clutch a few times when I got Faltered. No matter what- bring a Poison Immune.
Round 2: That Poison ain't playin'. Bring a Poison Immune or it's just a death sentence. Poor Doctor Voodoo died fast. So did Nick Fury. But Claire took him down SUPER FAST, just throw her in Poison Mode and you're good to go.
Round 3: WOW! Overseer makes Venompool a joke! The Contagion node ramps up Overseer's Cosmic Charges really fast. Just watch your Combo Meter and the Falter at 10 hits.
Civilian Intel:
6* r3 Cassie lang might not be the most obvious counter for Venompool but i got a one shot with her so she works well.
Kingpin
Hulkling
Abs Man (W/ Claire synergy)

Boss Fight:

Chapter 1.2: SKILL
Main Nodes:
Martial Discipline: Every 5 crits purify all Debuffs from you.
Fighting Pit: When you are immune to a Debuff you get a fury.
Accident Prone: Every 5 seconds you are inflicted with a Debuff in the following order: Weakness, Disorient, Armor Break, and then Special Lock. Each last 10 seconds.
Heal Block: Permanent heal block.
Bring:
Anyone that crits a lot. OMG- Misty is sooo good here! Stealthy is a beast. Nick F works but takes a long time to ramp up. Blade works well. Hit-Monkey. Aegon, Shang-Chi, MoleMan, Ronin is a lot of fun here. GwenPool is fun as well, Kingpin, Falcon, XBones, DDHK - pretty much any skill champ can run these paths. Elsa, Black Panther OG, BWDO
Civilian Intel:
Heimdall, Torch (Spidey Supreme Counter), Moleman (Path MVP), Hood + KP (Boss Counter)
Landmine Path Fights:
Easy Path: First fight is Spidey Supreme and he is a pain in the ass. I used Nick Fury and just slow played until I could get 5 Tactical Charges so I wouldn't Miss when Spidey goes all Astral or whatever. After that it was easy. NOTE: I did have to start the path over the first time because I just couldn't do anything right.
Civilian Intel: Use DDHK- he bypasses all the Miss stuff for Spidey Supreme, and he's good for the rest of the path.
Up: Holy Shit is this a shitty path! First up is Spider Ham and he seems to have extra reach on his SP1! Next up is one of the WORST Defender/Node Combo EVER- Annihilus!! If you Dex he get's Unstoppable- EVERY TIME YOU DEX! Thankfully I had an Elsa I could use to get Openings. I've seen online that Doom is solid here, just don't Dex. And if you have Valkyrie she is great for this fight. Shang-Chi if you can get the Slow on Annihilus. There are options- but this is a SHIT FIGHT!
Quest Boss: Moleman (Skill)
Main Nodes:
Special 1 Bias: Will throw SP1 more often.
Shock Tether: If either champ has not made contact in 6 seconds both champs get a shock Debuff.
Heavy-Hitter: He is unstoppable during Heavy Attacks- and it lasts a beat after it's over- so don't rush in.
Fight or Flight: He gets an Unstoppable Buff every 12 seconds and it lasts 4 seconds. If you are far away- you get the Unstoppable.
Chum the Waters: Whenever you Dodge an Attack, both champs get a Heal Block Debuff, a Taunt, and a Disorient for 12 seconds.
Old Sarge Says:
Round 1: I brought Agent Venom and his synergy for the path so I just used him. Moleman can be a pain with all his Monster Mass and unstoppable. I was pretty successful at being far away so that I got the Unstoppable from Fight or Flight node. And Agent V is just a beast with his Trinity synergy (Scorpion and Kraven).
Round 2: Easy fight with Bishop. Just watch the Unstoppable timer and be far away when it goes off. I love Bishop so much!!
Round 3: Yeah- I just used Bishop again. Easy W.
Civilian Intel:
6* R2 domino got a one shot.
Kingpin
Apoc

Chapter 2.1: COSMIC
Main Nodes:
Crack in the Armor: When the defender has an armor break on them you have a 10% chance (per armor break) to get a passive fury when you land an attack.
Tough As Nails: Defender gets an armor up ever 3 secs.
Mystic Ward: Your nullify has a 95% chance to fail.
Bring:
Any Cosmic works. Those with easy access to Armor Breaks even better. Captain Marvel Movie, Knull (pop an Sp1 and all the armor breaks add up quick!), Angela (Odin Pre-fight is even better!), CGR, King Groot, Hyperion, Cull Obsidian, Corvus, Aarkus, Venom, Medusa, Terrax, AirWalker (with Peni Parker synergy).
Civilian Intel: Herc with CapIW and BP synergy absolutely wrecks !
Heim, CGR (Path MVP), Galan(duped only), Hulkling / KP (Boss Counters)
Landmine Path Fights:
Quest Boss: Red Hulk (Science)
Main Nodes:
Fractured Guard: You gain a permanent Armor Break Debuff when you block one of his attacks. When you throw a Special it removes one Armor Break from you per Bar of Power consumed in your Special.
Redlining: If you go above 33% of your Max Power you gain a Power Gain Passive which increases your Power Gain. If you go above 75% of your Max Power you are immediately Power Drained to zero.
Toxic Thoughts: If you Parry him both of you get a Poison that does 1% damage over 6 seconds. If you are Poison Immune you get a burst of Direct Damage of the same amount.
Languor: If your Power drops to 0 you take a burst of +240% of the Defenders Attack as Direct Damage. (See above Redlining node).
Encroaching Stun: Every 20 seconds you get Stunned for 3 seconds unless you are performing an SP1 or SP2 when the timer expires.
Old Sarge Says:
Round 1: This is an easy fight for Nick Fury. Nick is Stun Immune in Real Nick Fury. Nick's SP1 is really long, so it makes the timing easy to avoid Encroaching Stun. Just don't let your power build up to fast and go above 75%. And don't Parry in Real Nick Fury phase- you don't want a Poison.
Round 2: He's a pain in the ass. I played around with using all my Cosmic champs from the path and they all did poorly. But Nick got him down. I hate Encroaching Stun on it's own- but the Redlining Node just makes this extra Un-Fun. lol
Round 3: Easy W for Nick. I'm gonna use him for the last round as well. He's my best counter to this fight.
Round 4: Yup- used Nick for the last round. Easy life if you have Nick. Just don't Parry.
Civilian Intel:
Kingpin
Angela: She clears the path and deals with the boss - doesn’t need to worry about poison, and has decently long specials for dealing with encroaching stun.
Awakened Valkyrie with bulwarks making her immune to stun was fantastic against 2.1 Red Hulk boss.
Absorbing Man absolutely wrecks the 2.1 Hulk boss
Kate wrecks.

Chapter 2.2: MUTANT
Main Nodes:
Antagonistic: Knock them down with Heavy Attacks and you get an Unblockable buff for 3 seconds plus 2 secs for each buff on you up to 9 secs.
Reckless Abandon: You get a fury when you hit them while YOU are Unblockable.
Roll With the Punches: They reduce effects of stun 20% each time you stun them UNLESSS you have a Prowess (active or passive).
Achilles Heel: They take 20% less damage except from Specials, Heavies, and Unblockable attacks.
Bring:
Prowess!!! Apoc, Sunspot, StormPX, Red Mags, White Mags, Emma Frost, anyone with Prowess will be good. Kitty (with Tigra synergy). Colossus (easy to get the full 9 second Unblockable), Bishop, Jubilee, ProfX, OG Storm.
Civilian Intel:
Heim, Odin, ProfX (Path MVP), Omega Sentinel (Toad Counter), Apoc (Boss Counter) : (Odin - prefight for ProfX - for extra long Unblockable)
Landmine Path Fights:
Easy Path: Iceman is a good counter to Nightcrawler and OG Spidey if you can keep Coldsnap up.
Quest Boss: Baron Zemo (Skill)
Main Nodes:
Ebb & Flow - Intercept: He has Protection. You can take it down by Intercepting him. You also get a Fury Passive when you intercept for 12 seconds. After the Fury expires the Protection returns and all Debuffs on him are Purified.
Repeat Offender - Taunt: Landing the same type of Basic Attack in a row inflicts a Taunt on him for 3 seconds.
Enhanced Special 2: His SP2 does more damage and the first part is Unblockable.
Wavering Will - Intercept: You can't reduce his Ability Accuracy. intercepting him disables this for 10 seconds.
Stay Awhile and Listen (Passive): When you get Rooted you are also Special Locked for 3 seconds.
Old Sarge Says:
Round 1: Tough fight. I had a ramped up Apoc and it was still close. I ended at 17% health left. Bait his SP1, it's easy to dex. But if you do push him to SP2- you gotta dex that first part because he is Unblockable. Rooted sucks, and the passive SP lock sucks harder, just make sure you have a Special ready.
Round 2: I tried ProfX but it didn't go very well. I got Rooted right as I was trying to throw my Special and couldn't recover. Went back in with a low health Bishop, didn't go well either. Damn Rooted sucks. So I went in with Arch Angel and somehow I got 15 Bleeds on me. So then I went in with Kitty and she did amazing, but her Phase ended super short after her SP3 and I took and SP2 to the face. Weird. But she's a great choice. Finished off the last 3% of Zemo with Red Mags.
Round 1 (Again): Because Kabam changed how the map looks I have to do the easy Path again- Nice! Anyhoo- Bishop did really well this time- got Zemo to 35%. Went back in with Kitty and finished him off- damn those Roots are LONG!
Round 3: Oh yeah! Kitty is the way to go here. I didn't get a One-Shot, but I missed an intercept and he hits damn hard. Finished up with Apoc- he's a great alternative as well- especially if he is Ramped Up on Apoc Charges.
Final Round: Got him half-way with Kitty and Apoc cleaned up the rest. This was a tough Boss for me- but I didn't have to use any revives for any of the rounds so that's a win! lol
Civilian Intel:
Kitty
Red Mags: He is #METAL!
Any mutant really, it's more of a skill test if anything. The ai is a pain for this fight though

Chapter 3.1: TECH
Main Nodes:
High Voltage: When you power drain/lock/burn the defender gets shocked.
Shocking Revelation: When the defender is shocked and either champ launches a special you get a fury.
Fighting Dirty: They get an Unblockable passive for 6 secs after their special UNLESS they are shocked.
Bring:
Power Drain/Lock/Burn! Or ones that Shock! Silver Centurion, Peni, Nimrod, Warlock, G2099, Civil Warrior, Nebula, Guardian, Vision(s), HulkBuster (heavy shocks), Sentinel, IMIW (after first Sp1 its Shock City). DocOc is a lot of fun here. Red Skull can knock these fights out as well!!
Civilian Intel: Infamous Iron Man works amazing! Once you build up to SP2 it's Game Over.
Future Antman works really well for the unblockable node in 3.1. Power detonation helps control the defender's ability to throw specials in the first place.
Heim, Nebula (Dragon Man Counter), Warlock (Path MVP), Shuri (Path MVP), CGR (Boss Counter)
Landmine Path Fights:
Quest Boss: Iron Man (Tech)
Main Nodes:
Attacker Special Burst Lock Down: When you launch a Special Iron man is inflicted with a Heal Block and an Armor Break Debuff for 5 seconds.
Enhanced Special 1: His SP1 does more damage and the first part is Unblockable.
Combo Up: His Combo Meter increases by 1 each second unless you Intercept him. Then it's paused for 10 seconds.
Obstinate Charge: He is Stun Immune on his first attack. This goes on cooldown for 8 seconds if you Parry him, but not on the original Parry- he will be Stun Immune for that.
The Walls Are Closing In: You get 10 Tactus Charges when the fight starts and a 30 second timer begins. Each second that either of you are backed against the wall it reduces the Tactus Charges by 1. If the Charges are not at 0 when the 30 seconds are up then you take Degen dealing 30% of your Max Health over 5 seconds. When the Timer expires, the 30 seconds starts over and the Tactus Charges are reset.
Old Sarge Says:
Round 1: He's a fun champ to fight. His SP1 took me a little time to learn to Dex, but it's not bad. Man that BIG ASS Regen he gets just kills your Spirit! lol. Try to keep him Heal Blocked. I used Hulkling and got the One-Shot, but it was only because Hulkling has a ton of Regen. Hulkling also helps to keep him pinned against the wall. I am pretty sure he is gonna cost me a couple champs and maybe a few revives as I explore. lol
Round 2: Easy fight for Galan. He just mops the floor with him. 2 SP2s and it was over. My Galan is a duped R3.
Rounds 3-5: I'm just gonna use Galan for these paths. I'm trying to blast my way through this so I can do the Paragon Boss Rush thing.

Chapter 3.2: #Spider-Verse Heroes, #Symbiote and #Sinister Six | SCIENCE
Main Nodes:
Short Temper: Each Cross Charge grants +30% Attack Rating. If you have TAGtical Edge you convert up to 5 Cross Charges into Cross Fight Fury Passives that last for the next 2 fights.
Sidestep Strike: #Spider-Verse Heroes, #Symbiote or #Sinister Six Attackers gain an Evade Charge whenever they knock the Defender down, which grants a 100% Chance to Evade Unblockable attacks. Whenever an Unblockable Basic attack is Evaded, the Defender is Passively Stunned for 0.9 seconds.
Furious Feint: #Spider-Verse Heroes, #Symbiote or #Sinister Six Attackers gain 2 Cross Charges each time they Evade any attack. Max stacks 10.
Escalating Assault: Every 6 seconds the Defender gains an Unblockable charge, making their next Attack Unblockable. Unblockable Charges are consumed whenever the Defender attacks, regardless of whether the Attack hits.
Explanation- Knock them down as much as you can. NOTE: You won't have enough time to heavy when they are stunned. Gain an evade charge whenever you knock down the defender granting 100% chance to evade Unblockable attacks. Evading a Unblockable basic attack passively stuns the defender. Gain 2 cross fight charges (tagged champs only) every time you evade. Every 6 secs, the defender gains an Unblockable charge
Bring:
Science Champs: Any (if you don't get hit). *Ascended Quake!
#Spider-Verse Heroes: Peni Parker, Spider Gwen, Spider Ham, Miles, Sparky, Stealthy, Spidey 2099, Spider-Man (Supreme), Spider-Man (OG)
#Symbiote: Anti-Venom, Knull, Red Goblin, Venom, Venompool, Sym Supreme, VtD, Carnage, Agent venom, Spider-Man (Symbiote)
#Sinister Six: Doc Ock, Mysterio, Vulture, Rhino, Green Goblin, Iron Patriot, Electro, Scorpion, Kraven
Crowd Sourced Intel: Great Synergy Team: Spider-Ham, Quake, Nick, SheHulk + one random for the boss fight. (Spider-Ham gets a lot of evades and SheHulk boosts her chance to get Furies)
Heim, Mr. Fantastic (Path MVP), SheHulk, Torch, Hood / Absorbing Man (Boss Counters) : (Boss done with Hood first time, but Just ranked Abs man, he should also be good).
Landmine Path Fights:
Down: This was a tough path. I had to restart it- I lost Torch to the first fight (Ebony Maw). I swapped in Gladiator Hulk and that made it a lot easier. Then there is a Pain in the Ass Terrax towards the end- with the Unblockable node and his Rock Field after his Specials means you can't Parry/Heavy without taking damage- I managed a Solo, but it was stressful. Last fight is a massive Pain in the Ass Punisher 2099- his Specials are pretty much impossible to Dex. I lost 2 champs to this fight and barely made it out with the third.
Right | Down: First fight is Mangog- he's a pain but not too bad, you can Heavy counter his SP1. Next is Tigra- her Specials are so fast and cover a lot of ground- I Solo'ed but it was nerve-wracking. Further down is Ultron Prime- he's a pain with all his Evade. Next up is Miles Morales- I suck at Dexing his SP1 so I lost a champ here and most of the rest are all beat up from the rest of the Quest Path. The final fight is Symbiote Supreme- bring a champs that can't gain buffs like OG Ant-Man and he is pretty easy.
Right | Up: First fight is Cap Sam- kind of a pain- extra Node is Buff Toggle Unstoppable. So you have to deal with Unblockable, Unstoppable, and his damn Auto-Block on Specials! Next up is a fun little fight against Mojo- I lost Gladiator Hulk here. Finished up with OG Ant-Man. I foresee having to use some items on this path. Oh goodie- Nimrod is next. Thank Odin for Overseer- this is a tough fight and I ate an SP3, survived, and won the fight. I got lucky. This is a brutal path. Easy fight against BWCV and then onto the next Pain Point- Ikaris and all his BS. Lost Overseer to him, but Overseer was at like 40% to start. Got him to 37% though. Scorpion put that Power Sting on him and took him down. The last fight is Hulkbuster- lol- Started with 23% health on Scorpion (in Shock Immune Mode) and ended with 100% health thanks to the Armor Breaks. All in all- not as bad as I feared. I lost Overseer and GHulk, but i have a full health Scorpion, almost full health Any-Man and Doom.
Quest Boss: Gladiator (Cosmic)
Main Nodes:
No Hit-M...ercy (Buff): Each time you knock him down he gains a Cruelty Buff giving him extra Crit Damage for 10 seconds. While he has the Cruelty he can Crit into your Block.
Now You See Me: Every 8 Seconds you get a Falter for 3 seconds. The timer resets each time you land a hit.
Steady Perseverance: When he launches a Special Attack, he gets a Stun Immune Buff for 4 seconds plus 2 seconds for each of his Unique Buffs. This Buff is paused during his Special Attacks.
Debilitate: Any Debuff he puts on you has +100% duration.
Long Distance Infinity: When he is far away from you- his Cruelty, Unstoppable, Vigilance, and Indestructible Buffs are paused.
Old Sarge Says:
Round 1: Welp! He's a bit of a Pain. Push him to his SP2. It sucks to evade but at least he doesn't get a long ass Unstoppable. Someone like CapIW might help with that. I ran Knull against him first just to get a fell for him. Then I brought in Agent Venom with his full synergy Team and I was able to get him down, but it wasn't fun. I was gonna try BWCV but Agent V did the job. Anyone that can deal with Unstoppable should help. (might try Spider Gwen next). But his SP1 gives you a Cold Snap and his SP2 gives you an Incinerate. So beware!
Round 2: I went in with CapIW and got wrecked. I probably should have baited the SP1- it's easier to Dex. So I went with the Doom Slap Cheese option and it worked like a charm.
Round 3: I had Overseer at about 75% health so I gave him a try- I pushed Gladiator to his SP2 and didn't land the Dex- so I died to Incinerate. I Doom Slap Cheesed him after that as all my other champs were either dead or almost dead.
Round 4: Welp! I couldn't do anything with Ant-Man- died fast and only managed to take off 18% of his health. I baited the SP1 but his Unstoppable is really long and the Stun Immune from the Steady Perseverance sucks. Time for the Doom Slap Cheese!
Final Round: I just have no good counters for him other than Doom Slap Cheese.
Sarge's Thoughts: I'm more excited for the upgraded OG Ironman than Gladiator. Gladiator is ok- just doesn't do it for me personally. I might feel different when I get him and can take him for a spin though.
Civilian Intel:
Kitty: Can cheese the fight if awakened. His SP2 doesn't miss so her power goes up like crazy.
Rintrah destroys Gladiator.
Symbiote Supreme is a great option.
Sorcerer Supreme: She has the Nullify Aura, a Slow for the Unstoppable, Passive Regen and Energy Resistance. I did with the R5 but still, her control is amazing. I'm sure Hood would eat all his buffs too.
Silk claps him hard.
Doom Slap Cheese!! (if Sig 200)
Abs Man absolutely destroys him. Make sure to start in magma though and you get tons of pauses through his confidence buffs, dots on his specials and the cruelty buff on knockdown
